Worksafe Victoria Head Office
The new headquarters for Worksafe Victoria has been constructed in the port city of Geelong, located on the Barwon River and Corio Bay area, approximately 75km south west of Melbourne. Daikin Australia supplied the chillers and consulted with Fuseco Power Solutions to reduce the harmonics to meet the Australian Standards for Voltage Distortion at the point of common coupling as per AS/NZS 61000.3.6. To comply with the requirements, Fuseco selected a Sinexcel 100A, 3-phase, 3-wire, wall-mount Active Harmonic Filter.
THE CHALLENGE
The installation of the chillers would introduce harmonics into the electrical environment. In order for the building to comply with the Australian Standards for Voltage Distortion at the point of common coupling as per AS/NZS 61000.3.6, the harmonics needed to be reduced.
THE SOLUTION
Fuseco analysed the specifications of the Daikin chillers and selected a Sinexcel 100A, 3-phase, 3-wire, wall-mount Active Harmonic Filter, which was installed next the main switchboard and set up to mitigate the harmonics of the chillers which are used in a duty/standby configuration.
The Outcome
The results were immediate and the performance of the AHF was above and beyond the requirements of the specification. If we refer to the screen shot from the AHF’s touch screen post installation, we can note the following points:
- The harmonic content of the load is 42%, which is quite typical of VSD loads (right)
- The Sinexcel AHF mitigated the load current harmonics down to approx. 4-5% (left)
- As a result of the compensation by the AHF the corresponding grid voltage harmonics is approx. 3%
- Compact Size and Light Weight.
- Harmonics Compensation Capability - Compensates 2nd to 50th harmonic order or simultaneous compensation of all 50 harmonic orders.
- Algorithm Intelligence.
- 3-Level Topology.
- Ease of Installation and Commissioning (‘Plug and Play’)
- User-friendly Interface and Monitoring.
- Also available in 690V.
- 1 year warranty.
- Complies with IEC61000 / IEC60146 / EN55011 / EN50091 / IEEE519
THE SINEXCEL AHF - BENEFITS
Sinexcel have applied new generation thinking and innovative design principles to create a new range of Active Harmonic Filters that have redefined what is possible from a cost vs performance vs space perspective. Their performance and ease of use is unsurpassed, able to compensate the 2nd to the 50th harmonic order or the simultaneous compensation of all 50 harmonic orders in real time! Operating with 97% efficiency, the Sinexcel AHF offers instantaneous, dynamic harmonic compensation, ideal for the challenging demands of modern electrical environments. The Sinexcel AHF are a compact, light-weight and modular design, available in wall mounting and rack/cabinet configurations. The Sinexcel AHF has set the standards for all others to follow.

It’s been a pleasure working with Fuseco on this project. Initially, we thought that the power quality issues on this job were insurmountable. Fuseco conducted a power quality site audit and consulted with us to find a suitable solution that would work reliably in this challenging environment. The reactors and harmonic filters specified & supplied by Fuseco have been the perfect solution.

Just wanted to say thank you again to the Fuseco team. When presented with an electrical harmonics problem of this nature, I wasn’t sure how to approach it. You guys explained it in logical, scientific terms and expertly demonstrated the capability of your technology. It is now one month post-installation and I can say that the Active Filter is working well and the harmonics levels on this site are now negligible.
